From Pioneer to Market Leader

1995

  • U.S. Micro is founded by Jim Kegley and Steve Bowen. Both agreed that there would be a future need for large companies to develop standardized processes for retiring IT assets and mitigating data and environmental issues.

1996

  • U.S. Micro leads the ITAD industry by employing only trained U.S. Micro employees to perform all on-site services at its customers’ locations, including asset inventory and removal services.
  • U.S. Micro leads the ITAD industry by establishing a firm purchase price model to acquire all of its customers’ out-going IT assets. This purchase model is still used today.

1999

  • U.S. Micro establishes its "Give Back to the Community" charter to support worthwhile charities with cash and technology donations that seek to use technology to improve the lives of people in need.

2001

  • U.S. Micro is recognized by the U.S. Secret Service for outstanding performance as a result of U.S. Micro donating laptops to the newly formed Electronic Crimes Task Force as a result of 9/11. U.S. Micro supplied the replacement laptops just days after 9/11 as a result of their premises being destroyed which was located in World Trade 7 building.

2002

  • U.S. Micro expands and forms U.S. Micro Real Estate Holdings, LLC to purchase the 124,000-square-foot Atlanta headquarters and distribution facility.

2004

  • U.S. Micro begins its three-year partnership with the NASCAR Sprint Cup team, culminating in the sponsorship of the #50 car driven by Jimmy Spencer.
  • Jim Kegley wins the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in the Business and Consumer Services category. This prestigious designation acknowledged the financial strength and stability, effective business model, exceptional revenue growth and overall successful operation of U.S. Micro.(Press Release)

2005

  • Again, leading the industry, U.S. Micro develops Enertia, a proprietary, real-time, wireless inventory tracking system that is employed at every customer location. It captures all relevant asset information, including real-time reconciliation to ensure all equipment is fully recovered. (Press Release)

2006

  • U.S. Micro develops the ability to perform DoD drive wipes at every customer location using the Enertia solution. This process includes electronic verification of a successful wipe to eliminate any human error associated with manual disk wiping.
  • U.S. Micro leads the ITAD industry by requiring all IT assets to be confirmed “free of customer data” prior to any asset leaving a customer location.

2008

  • U.S. Micro receives the Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR) certification. (Press Release)
  • U.S. Micro forms USM Capital, LLC to acquire a $200 million IT leasing portfolio from ICON Capital, which created the opportunity to offer a full suite of “cradle-to-grave” IT asset management services.(Press Release)

2009

  • U.S. Micro forms a partnership with the national non-profit organization Computer for Youth, which provides technology to enhance the at-home learning experience of children in low-income communities. Learn more here.

2010

  • U.S. Micro leads the ITAD industry by breaking ground on a $15 million facility in Las Vegas, which will house proprietary machinery capable of turning e-waste into usable green products like bike racks and outdoor lumber.
  • U.S. Micro receives IDC's G.R.A.D.E. certification.
  • Gartner cites U.S. Micro as a Visionary in its first ITAD Magic Quadrant.
