  • Refurbish or recycle all retired IT equipment
  • Commit to a 100 percent no landfill policy
  • Vet vendor's environmental safeguards; certifications don't necessarily guarantee adequate controls
  • Avoid vendors that rely on downstream third parties for ultimate processing
  • Know what happens to equipment downstream & if it ends up in foreign scrap markets
  • Verify vendor's environmental commitment aligns with your own
  • Visit vendor's facility to verify process and sustainability controls
  • Consider a vendor that offers a closed-loop system for recycling all IT equipment from refurbishing and resale to demanufacturing and remanufacturing
  • Consider donating a portion of refurbished IT equipment through a vetted ITAD provider's charitable contribution program
  • Offer employee eco-events to encourage individual e-cycling
