Prior to partnering with U.S. Micro, a global technology consulting company worked to capture the residual value of its retired IT assets through a combination of direct online resale and consigning equipment to vendors. However, both arrangements resulted in a loss of revenue due to excessive consignment fees, slow sales, or the high cost associated with online sales. The company was also concerned about their consignment vendor’s weak security precautions, which resulted in theft of equipment and data.
The company decided to transition disposition of its IT assets to U.S. Micro because it was better equipped to address both of these concerns. For example, U.S. Micro’s purchase outright model provided a guaranteed price upfront for retired equipment. Since partnering with U.S. Micro, the residual dollars paid to the company for disposal of assets has totaled approximately $1 million per calendar year.
The company also benefitted from U.S. Micro’s superior IT asset disposition capabilities and process. U.S. Micro provided the company with onsite data encryption verification for all data-bearing assets. Any asset that could not be confirmed as encrypted was immediately subjected to an onsite DoD-compliant hard drive wipe prior to removal. U.S. Micro has removed thousands of assets from the company’s locations throughout the United States.
